Help Needed!!

Help needed to clear my stock of part used moulding lengths some of which are shown in the picture below.

Over the past year I have built up a large stock of part used lengths of mouldings in various finishes and widths.  All of these will make up into frames of various sizes and will be offered at low prices.

In the next few weeks I will make these up into standard size frames but if you have something to frame and are looking for a great deal drop in with your item and pick up a bargain.

Some recent framing projects

It has been a while since updating the blog due to busy times but here are a few recent jobs.

Some fun ones to start with.

Ready for a cuppa? This is a tea towel featuring the PG Tips monkey!

Football fan?  The parents of this new born boy are Arsenal fans so Grandma brought in a beautifully executed cross stitch and we happily obliged with some team colours.  You will notice the baby is named after Arsenal player Theo Walcott.

The frame is one from a range of High Gloss lacquered finishes which are becoming extremely popular especially in clean whites and jet blacks.  What they would call "On Trend" in the TV home design programmes.

Memorabilia is something we do a lot of and the makers of some electrical goods brought in some items from a specialised light they manufacture and we put them together as a leaving present for one of the company founders.

We think this layout of odd sized articles has worked well and although some items are three dimensional they all sit well in the mount.

Out partying? These young folk were and had their photos taken in their posh frocks and smart suit.  What better way to carry on the celebrations than have the photos framed.  A bright white mount adds punch to the high key images and a subtle shade of grey underneath ties it into the pewter frame.  The frame has been kept narrow to preserve the panoramic proportions and by selecting anti reflective glass the owner will see the pictures rather than her reflection.

To finish off we ought to mention an important piece of equipment used on the last two examples.  We own a Computer Mount Cutter which is capable of cutting mounts to extreme levels of precision and is the only way to cut multi layered multiple aperture mounts to an acceptable quality.  The machine will also cut ovals, circles, geometric shapes or any of a huge number of special shapes from its design library.  We can also create unusual designs using a graphics package.

Below is the cutter completing a five aperture double layer mount.

We can cut any number of mounts from a one off bespoke framing job to thousands of identical mounts for a run of prints.  We also supply our colleagues in the framing trade who cannot make the investment in their own machine.

Hopefully we will be able to post more regularly in the future but in the meantime do give us a call to discuss your framing needs.

Memorabilia Framing

We get quite a lot of memorabilia in to frame and here are a couple of examples which a lady customer requested for her "boys".

Firstly her "big boy" (husband) drove a Ferrari around Silverstone racing circuit and came back with a certificate and photo.  As these were different sizes and formats there was a dead area in the mount to fill so we scanned an outline of the circuit and cut out the shape in the mount on our Computer Mount Cutter then filled in the space with the Silverstone logo.

Here is the finished frame:

Her "little boy" (son) is a talented footballer and here is his memorabilia we combined into one frame.

Limited Edition Prints by Delia Moth

We are pleased to announce the launch of a range of limited edition prints by Delia Moth.

Delia has been some time creating this series which feature scenes around Norfolk where she spent most of her adult life and we have been working on printing them in house to achieve the desired quality.

The prints are printed on an Epson printer using Epson pigmented inks onto Epson archival matt paper to ensure the colours are true and remain that way.

Each print will be limited to an edition of 250 and are avilable ready mounted to either 20" x 16" at £39.00 or 14" x 11" at £25.00 or ready framed at £59.95 and £44.95.

So here are the four prints.

"Autumn in Norfolk"

"Heacham Lavender"

"Sandringham Walk"

"Snettisham Signal Box"

The prints are available to buy now and at the moment exclusively through us.  The originals will be on show here during the month of June and will be available for purchase (P.O.A.).  Delia will also be here in the creative studio on the three weekends of The Peterborough Artists Open Studios (see details below).

Tapestry Framing

We deal with a lot of fabric items, mostly cross stitch, but over the years we have done a huge variety including silk scarves, batik and even a flat cap!

Here is a tapestry that has just been completed and I thought I would share the technique.

Our overiding concern when we farme any fabric work is to make the framing process reversible and to use materials which will have no adverse affect on the item.  So we never use any staples, glues or self adhesive tapes to mount the work or come into contact with the work.

Here is the initial stage and you can see the tapestry has been stretched and laced over a piece of conservation mount board using mercerised cotton thread.

A box is then formed from strips of foam board which are slightly wider than the margin planned for the mount and these are secured to each other anchoring the tapestry in place.

The mount is then cut, aligned with the tapestry and the excess foam board trimmed away.

The frame can now be made and in this case the customer has chosen an oak veneer in a simple flat profile.  The package of tapestry and mountboard is then fitted into the frame which in this case has been glazed using  Water White Anti Reflective glass.

This final picture was taken with the glass in on a ceiling mounted camera with strip lighting overhead and still there are no detectable reflections!

Apparently this tapestry ws completed about twenty years ago but now it is framed to last and be enjoyed for a long time to come at around £80 including the special glass.

Rembrandt Pays a Visit!

Some canvasses in to framed this week from local artist Vanda Richards.  This amazingly is Vanda's first portrait!  It is an oil on canvas and just had to be framed in a classical style.

Back to Vanda's more usual style.  A couple of landscapes again oil on canvas.  For the sunset scene Vanda wanted a dark frame and for it to come right up to the painting but on the picture of the circling buzzards we argreed that a softer transition from the frame to the image was required.  This one has a liner moulding in a ivory colour which fits inside the main frame.

Vanda will be taking part in Rutland open Studios so do go along and see her work.  I am waiting to get a link for this event but will amend this post as soon as I have one.

Busy week!

The sun seems to have brought everybody out and so it has been a very busy week here.  Just time to show a few recent projects.

Firstly a large original oil painting by Garth Bayley.  Garth was looking for a wide frame but with a certain rustic simplicity and we came up with just what he was looking for and managed to get the moulding at a great price to bring it in at under £100.

See more of Garth's work at http://www.garthbayley.co.uk/

Second of this week's examples from a collector of Urban Art and instantly recognisable as a piece by Faille.  We have float mounted this print and framed in a high gloss laquer frame, of course, adding glass spacers to stop the artwork touching the glass.  Will look great in a contempoary setting and won't break the bank at £125.

Lastly this week some medals brought in by the son of an elderly war veteran.  The medals came in to us having been cleaned and court mounted (not by us) and with a new set of wings with the King George crown from the period.  Our customer wanted a clean open style of frame with no mount and an Air Force blue background.  Apologies for the reflection in the glass, perhaps I should have persuaded the customer to take anti-reflective glass.  This is a surprise gift and will hopefully make an old Airman very happy.

Football Shirt Framing

We do not specialise in shirt framing but the ones we do are completed to a very high standard.  The shirt is stretched over a foam board former, hand sewn into place and hand sewn onto a back board in a complimentary colour.  Once this is done spacers are added and a front mount goes on top and into a deep rebate frame.  In this case the customer chose black to keep the final look clean and simple.

Overall cost, just under £200.00

Welcome to our blog

Welcome to our blog.  We will be updating this blog whenever we feel we have something to show or tell you about which may include examples of recent work, new products or events that may be of interest.

To get started here in an example of a recent framing project.  The item is a small plate (approx 3" diameter) depicting an image from the John Lennon collection.  Our customer wanted to display this on her wall so we created a deep frame and used Anti-Reflective glass.  This is an optically coated glass which gives the appearance that it is not even there.

At under £45 we think this is a great value way of preserving a piece of memorabilia.
