3-D Framing

Here is another one of our little challenges.  This time some wedding memorabilia which needed some depth to accomodate them.

Due to the depth required we have had to create a box that extends beyond the back of the frame (known as a Cove Box).  This has been accurately cut from suedette finish mount board on our Computerised Mount Cutter.  A clean white mount and white frame complment these items and will make a lasting memory of the couple's happy day.

Hand Finished Frames

Sometimes a picture just does not suit a ready finished moulding and so that is when we start getting creative.

Many picture frame mouldings are available in unfinished plain wood and these we can apply our own finishes to.

The painting below is by local artist Vanda Richards and is an oil on board approx. 160mm x 330mm.

The frame is made up of two frames one inside the other.  The inner frame (or liner) is a simple 15mm wide cushion moulding which has been painted a stone colour.  The outer frame which has a more complex profile has been painted clay red, overpainted with black and rubbed back very slightly to reveal the red.  After this a wash of burnt umber was applied and then a dark oak wax was applied and buffed.

The finished frame gives a classic look which we believe enhances the painting without taking anything away from it.
